Gardens

Did you know that Cornwall has over 50 gardens which open regularly to the public each year? Thats not counting all the other private gardens that open during the year.

It really doesn't matter if your a gardener or not, take time out to visit one during your stay, you will be astonished at the diversity of vegetation, the array of colour and the breathtaking views. There's a lost garden, gardens by the sea, magnificent garden estates surrounding historic properties, gardens for walkers, for kids, and easy access gardens. If you have your four legged friend accompanying you there are dog friendly gardens as well.

Many places offer refreshments, providing the opportunity to have a great relaxing family day out. Children will love the freedom; lots of space to explore and let off steam. Take them to see the reindeer at Trevarno or to Glendurgan where a magical maze awaits.

Probably the most famous garden in Cornwall is the Eden Project. This huge global site with its towering biomes is more than just a stunning garden - it is a memorable day out. Rain forest and Mediterranean biomes , sculptures, exhibitions, workshops, guided tours and events, theres so much to see and do for all the family. Once you have visited your ticket entitles you to annual membership and free entry to Eden for a year, so you can visit time after time.

RHS Rosemoor, at Great Torrington, Devon is a short drive from Launceston. Here at this family friendly garden you can pick up practical gardening tips, get inspired and have a great day out at the same time.

The National Gardens Scheme opens many private gardens to the public; these would not normally be accessible, only opening just a few times a year to raise money for charity. NGS gardens usually charge a small entry fee and generally refreshments are available. Very often these gardens have unusual designs and planting. There are gardens open under the NGS in Launceston and area, you do not have to travel very far to find one open.

During the year even more gardens open to the public; for charity events, hotel gardens, country estates and those open as part of a village festival. If you would like to know whats going on in the area, please contact or visit Launceston Tourist Information Centre and pick up the latest garden leaflets or visit the "Events" listing on this website.
