National Maritime Museum Cornwall
Type: Museum
Celebrating the sea, boats and Cornwall, this multi award winning Museum not only has 15 galleries, over five floors beautifully illustrating the past, present and future of this island nation but also offers a number of stunning exhibitions.
Launching on 16 March, the new blockbuster Search & Rescue exhibition invites you to enter the world of the maritime rescue services where ordinary people lead extraordinary lives, risking their lives to save yours. Experience the drama of a rescue, climb aboard a Sea King helicopter, meet the crews, explore a lifeboat, revisit rescues from the past and discover what it takes to bring you home safely when the worst happens at sea and around our coast.
13 April sees the opening of the 2012BC exhibition, which explores Cornwall and the sea in the Bronze Age and includes a live reconstruction of a prehistoric boat and rare objects never before seen in the UK.
And, 2012 wouldn’t be the same without an Olympic exhibition. Opening on 2 May is Our Sporting Life – Sail for Gold, an exhibition celebrating our British Olympic and Paralympic sailing heritage – the only exhibition in Cornwall approved by London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games.
With hands-on activities every school holiday, talks, lectures, workshops, rotating events and exhibitions, there’s so much happening, don’t miss your chance for a visit. You’ll find more than you might expect.
