Type: Museum

For visitors with a passion for the past the Royal Cornwall Museum will delight and amaze. Nearly 200 years old it has acquired a wide and varied collection encompassing all aspects of Cornwall's history, culture and environment. Its collections include objects from our oldest ancestors and the earliest civilisations in the world right up to the present day. Treasures include a 5000 year old jade axe, the 4000 year old Cornish lunulae and the 2500 year old Egyptian Mummy. View the Trewinnard Coach - our ancestors’ version of a Rolls Royce, measure up against the Cornish Giant, examine a famous explorer’s medicine chest and explore the internationally famous Rashleigh mineral collection with over 1200 beautiful specimens on display. If art is your thing then the museum’s fine art gallery holds many surprises - each year new works form the collection are brought out on display from Old Masters to contemporary Cornish artists - there is something for everyone.

Families can find something to do everyday at the museum. Explore with the specially designed explorer back packs. Discover more about the natural world in the discovery area. Learn about minerals and the stories they tell through the hands-on discovery drawers. Additional craft activities are run on select days during the school holidays.
