Walking In Launceston
When visiting Launceston don't forget to visit the Tourist Information Centre in the Market House Arcade and pick up a copy of the Town Trail. These user friendly guides include a map, directions and lots of interesting historical, quirky facts about this amazing town all together in one leaflet - only £1.00!
There are two Trail's to chose from; the short Trail is about 1.5miles in length, and takes about 1.5hours to complete. The Long Trail is approximately 2.5 miles long, taking approximately 2.5 hours.
Please allow yourself longer to complete the Trails if you plan to visit the fascinating attractions on the way. Launceston Castle, Lawrence House Musuem, St Mary Magdelene Church, Launceston Steam Railway, the Priory Ruins all deserve to be visited.
Launceston is the starting point (or end) of two long distance trails. The Two Castles Trail links Launceston Castle and Okehapton Castle, a distance of 24 miles. Covering a varied terrain which includes north-west Dartmoor this way marked walking route passes historic settlements and hill forts dating back to the Bronze Age.
The Tamar Valley Discovery Trails runs between Plymouth and Launceston, a distance of 30 miles. Recently new links have been added, the Lifton Link (linking with the Two Castles Trail) and the Kit Hill Link.On the way the waymarked trail winds through villages and woodlands and passes river quays, a scenic walk during any season.

You can purchase walk books, there's a wide variety of titles, covering really short walks to information on the South West Coast Path. A range of Ordnance Survey maps are available to purchase.
